Paraguayan culture is a unique fusion between Spanish-European culture and traditional Southern Guaraní culture. The people are warm, friendly, and very family-oriented. Tragically, political unrest, wide-spread government corruption, and chronic economic problems have plagued the country for several decades. It remains one of the poorest nations in Latin America, with over 40% of its people living in poverty. As for matters of faith, more than 80% of all Paraguayans identify with their Catholic heritage, but according to the Pew Research Center only 32% of Paraguayans attend church regularly and only 21% of them claim that they are highly committed to their faith.

We have several great partnerships with long-term missionaries and church planters in Paraguay. Your team will work with these ministry leaders to help expand their Gospel influence. In addition, some Bethany Teams will sail by riverboat to small communities along the Paraguay River to put on medical clinics and children’s programs.
